24 Nov Hitch up in the Yorkshire Dales: our guide to caravanning
Caravanning is ever-growing in popularity, yet finding a secure, safe, and scenic location to pitch up isn’t always easy. In this blog, we explain why Yorkshire should be the next stop on your bucket list and why Masons Campsite is the place for a well-earned break.
Yorkshire from the window seat
Yorkshire is the place to be for rolling landscapes and picturesque seaside towns. Don’t just take our word for it – there are over 34 areas of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) across the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors, Yorkshire Wolds, and coastal towns. On foot or by public transport, you simply wouldn’t be able to enjoy them all in one trip. However, with the luxury of taking your home on wheels, you can pitch and enjoy each one at your own pace.
Organising your caravan adventure
Before your wheels hit the tarmac, it’s vital to have a well-laid out plan with good pitches along the way. Whether you’re hiking in the dales or visiting some of the charming towns, create an itinerary that matches your interests. Be aware that, despite being able to accommodate caravans, some of our country lanes are often winding and narrow and can be closed at times for maintenance work. So, be sure to check your travel plans both far in advance and close to the time of departure for smooth sailing. Or driving, as the case may be!
What makes a good caravan site?
There’s nothing worse than pulling up to a site that looked picturesque on the web but falls seriously short in person – once it’s far too late to do anything about it. Although caravans and motorhomes themselves often have good amenities, after a few days on the road, you’re looking for somewhere to really put your feet up with electric hook-ups, water, waste disposal and even Wi-Fi access.
Location, location, location: scenic river views for caravanning bliss
You didn’t come all the way to Yorkshire to look at a car park, right? At Masons Campsite, all our pitches have scenic riverside views so you can wake up next to a babbling brook overlooked by the famous Simon’s Seat peak. In the summer months, you’ll often find neighbouring pitches wild swimming, flyfishing or returning from a hike along the Dales Way route.
All the caravan amenities you could ever need at Masons Campsite
We want caravanning to be accessible to everyone, and for everyone to feel comfortable exploring the great outdoors. That’s why we’re constantly investing in our facilities to bring those little luxuries to your caravan door. We have an on-site coffee and bread shed for freshly-baked goods, a shop for all the essentials you might have left at home, fire pits for hire, and even a space to play boules and skittles.
In addition, you can expect hot water access around the clock, proper waste disposal and recycling, a laundry room with full washer and dryer, a communal freezer, and showers – not forgetting our Masons Wi-Fi – quite a challenge to source in the rural Yorkshire Dales.
The Masons Campsite touch: thoughtful extras
As seasoned outdoor adventurers ourselves, you’ll be pleased to know that we have a trick up our sleeve for even the stickiest of situations. In bad weather, you can pitch up on our boards and get away without delay or damage. On those days where you need a bit of extra time to pack up, lazy day departures can be arranged (subject to availability) and likewise, early arrivals are welcomed – as long as space permits!
